A fire in Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College and Hospital in Gorakhpur Monday gutted the principal’s office and an adjacent record room containing documents. No loss of life has been reported. The state-run hospital and district administration have ordered probes.
The BRD Medical College had hit the headlines in August last year when 63 children, including infants, died within a span of four days when the supply of oxygen was disrupted due to non-payment of dues to the vendor. The hospital, that had been marred by controversies over depleting healthcare, was gutted in fire.
The fire gutted the principal’s office situated at the hospital premises. Fire tenders have been pressed into service to control the blaze. The cause of the fire is not known yet.
