Washington: Epilepsy is the fourth most common neurological disorder and affects people of all ages. A person diagnosed with this chronic disorder gets recurrent, unprovoked seizures. A medication has come to save you from epilepsy. The speciality of these medicines is that they have been made from marijuana (ganja). The makers of this medicine claim that this medicine made from ganja is very effective in preventing epileptic seizures.
Crores of patients suffering from epilepsy
According to the World Health Organization WHO report, the number of epilepsy patients in the world is around 5 million. More than 10 million people suffer from this disorder in India. In such a situation, the American health regulators have approved the practice of ganja to protect against epilepsy on Monday. This step is considered as a milestone. Ganja has been declared illegal in almost every country including India
The name of the medicine made from marijuana
The US Food and Drug Administration has approved the medicine named ‘epidialex’ to treat two rare types of epilepsy in patients aged 2 years and above. This medicine has not been made entirely by marijuana. This drug has been prepared in a strawberry flavoured syrup. The medicine has chemicals from the marijuana plant in the pure form. The person who consumes medicines does not get as much intoxication as it is by drinking Hemp.
How does marijuana stops epilepsy?
The treatment of epilepsy has been taken after the removal of chemistry from ganja, but it is not clear now that the cannabidoid or CBD, which is finally found in ganja, reduces epilepsy. The first UK drug maker GW Pharmaceuticals had seen the effect of this drug on more than 500 children and adults after crossing many legal barriers. Epidiolex Essentially Pharmaceutical-grade version is CBD Oil. Some parents have already used it to treat epilepsy children. More than 100 chemicals are found in the ganja plant. One of these is also a CBD. There is no THC in it. Due to which, the use of this drug affects the brain.
HIV can cause obesity among patients
FDA chief Scott Gottlieb said that if a proper assessment of the elements present in marijuana is done, then many more diseases can be treated. FDA has already approved another synthetic version of marijuana in the treatment of serious diseases, including weight loss in patients with HIV.
