A staggering 53.7% of the total births in a year are during the second half of the year. 37% of 21.2 million births in the year 2015-16 were in the months of August to November. September has the highest number of births in the year at 9.35% of the total number of births. The reasoning behind the trend as given by the Health Management Information System is that the majority of marriages take place in the months of November to February and the majority of childbirth is after a period of 10 months from the marriage.
