Rape cases on the rise but conviction rate still remains low

The past few years have seen the rise in the cases of rapes and gang rapes of women.  From Jammu and Kashmir to Sasaram in Bihar neither children nor old were spared by these Sick heads. Demand for death penalty for rapists has risen since Delhi’s Nirbhaya case, but till now the people’s representatives have not taken any concrete steps.

The rate of crime against women – crimes per 100,000 female population – was 55.2 in 2016, up from 41.7 in 2012. As many as 39 crimes against women were reported every hour in India, up from 21 in 2007, according to Crime in India 2016 report by NCRB.  It is  believed that most of our representatives in the government are facing allegations of crimes against women even rape.

According to NCRB report, 1581 Current Representatives have criminal records against themselves.  Of these, 51 people have registered criminal cases against women. There are four people, who are accused of rape case.

BJP (Bharatiya Janta Party ) has the highest number of accused representative in the case of crime against women. Even Shiv Sena and Trinamool Congress have a considerable number of accused representatives.

In the past  10 years, 2,78,866 rape case has been registered.  In 2015, 29.4 per cent of cases and 25.5 per cent of cases in 2016 were convicted. The situation is that 38 thousand 947 cases of rapes were registered in 2016. That means, on average, 39 rpm each hour. Only 1 out of 4 arrested in this were convicted.

In the last 10 years, the cases of 2 lakh 78 thousand 866 rap cases were registered during this period. In 2015, 29.4 per cent of cases and 25.5 per cent of cases in 2016 were convicted. The situation is that 38 thousand 947 cases of rapes were registered in 2016. That means, on average, 39 rpm each hour. Only 1 out of 4 arrested in this were convicted.

Talking about the year 2016, the maximum number of rapes occurred in Madhya Pradesh is 4882. 4816 cases in Rajasthan, 4816 in Maharashtra and 4816 rapes in UP. At the same time, in Delhi, 2155 rape cases were registered in 2016. In Jammu and Kashmir, there were 256 rapes during this period.
