The Manohar Lal Khattar-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Haryana is pushing Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ideology in the state. Soon, the gyms run by Haryana government will be used as RSS Shakhas, the agriculture minister said in Panchkula in the opening ceremony of a state-run gym in Panchkula.
In a conscious move, the government has planned to set up gymnasiums on two acres Panchayati land in every village where youth can practice Yoga, wrestling and other games.
The States’s agriculture minister Om Prakash Dhankar has added fuel to the Opposition fire by saying that these gyms would be used as RSS Shakha. Dhankhar got support from Karan Dev Kamboj, Food and Supply minister.
“Shakhas don’t indulge in any activity which prohibits gyms from being used as RSS units. I don’t think there is anything wrong in using gyms as shakhas. RSS shakhas have been in existence since 1925,” Karan Dev Kamboj was reported saying by India today. Sports and Youth Affair Minister Anil Vij seconded Kamboj.
Out of the target of setting up 1,000 gymnasiums, 300 have already been opened. The states is in the process of recruiting Yoga and gym trainers. The youth will be trained in kabaddi, wrestling and volleyball.
The opposition has condemned the move with Congress accusing the government of promoting RSS agenda. Haryana Congress MLA Karan Singh Dalal was reported slamming the Khattar government saying, “If the education minister (Sharma) says RSS workers will set up shakhas at gyms, it is highly condemnable. Using government funds to promote RSS agenda is a criminal conspiracy.”
