Vinod Verma, a senior journalist and former BBC Digital Editor has been apprehended by the Chhattisgarh police in Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram area on alleged charges of extortion.
He was picked by from his house early on Friday. According to local reports, police have seized many CDs and some cash from Mr. Verma. He is accused of blackmailing a politician by storing sensitive material of his personal life.While details are still not available, when brought to the notice of the Uttar Pradesh police, a spokesperson clarified that the State police had nothing to do with the case.
“He has been arrested by Chhattisgarh police in a case of extortion registered at P.S. Pandri, distt Raipur. Crime no 340/17, U/S 384(exortion) 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC,” the spokesperson said.AAP leader Ashutosh tweeted about the arrest and asked: “Attack on Press?”
